Navigating deals

Decisions, decisions! With all of the choices out there, finding the best broadband deal can be daunting. For this reason, most of us choose to avoid the headache and stay put, while continuing to pay for sub-par service.  Thankfully, WeCompare does the hard work for you and will help you navigate your way to the best broadband deal. For this reason, we are here to give you the 411 on what you need to know and can expect from switching providers.

Know What you Want

Before choosing a new provider there should be several questions you ask yourself:

  • What is the minimum contract period?
  • What broadband speed is required to fulfill your needs?
  • Are broadband-only packages available or do you need a bundle package?
  • What costs are incurred?
  • Which download limit should I choose?
  • Are there hidden costs involved for over usage for example?

Broadband speed changes significantly from one provider to another. You do not want to find yourself in a situation where you have snail-pace, up in the mountains kind of service, and you are continuously struggling to download. So, be vigilant. If you are a person who streams a lot of movies, video games, or simply downloads large files for work– then you should consider investing in a Fibre Optic connection. Either way, you can use our broadband speed test to assess where you are and if you need to upgrade your service.

Arm Yourself with the Right Information

When switching providers, it is likely that you find yourself without the internet. This can be prevented by ensuring you have the correct information on hand when you switch. So, have your full address, bank details, and/or account details ready. More specifically, if you are switching broadband that relies on a telephone line you will also need your Universal Account Number (UAN).

Also note, that every contract will have a cooling down period. If you find yourself in a situation where you change your mind, don’t panic. There is usually a cancellation period of approx. 7-14 days, where you avoid paying any penalties. Check this out before signing up to avoid any unwelcome surprises.

Buy a Bundle

This is entirely down to individual preferences. Most providers offer broadband-only or bundle packages. Ask yourself; Will you make good use out of a telephone line or Pay-TV? If the answer is yes, then you can save yourself money by bundling them together with your broadband. Keep in mind that with some suppliers, the price of a basic phone line together with a broadband plan is around the same as a broadband-only plan, so it may be worth it to buy a bundle.

If you are a household that watches a lot of TV, then Sky or Virgin Media offers great bundles to choose from. Customers can add and subtract from the packages to suit their preferences. So, whether you are a sports fanatic or a movie buff, you are sure to find a package that suits you.

Additionally, if you are a chatty kind of person who still uses a landline, then be sure to find a bundle with calls included, as there are many available. Be it evenings, weekends, or unlimited anytime calls, the choice is yours. If you have little to no need for a landline, then perhaps go broadband-only or simple pay-as-you-go.

To Limit or not to Limit?

Nowadays you are unlikely to find a package that isn’t unlimited. What this means is that users can download what they like when they like, without a cap.

We would generally advise that you opt for an unlimited package for peace of mind. Unless you have an extremely low internet usage of less than an hour of browsing daily and don’t stream music, you should look for an unlimited cap to your broadband.

What’s your Budget?

Cost is a deciding factor in many aspects of our life, and choosing your broadband provider shouldn’t break the bank. Keeping your budget in mind at every step will help you keep control of what you have left at the end of the month.
